Returning soon!

Hi guys!  Just a quick heads up to those that might still check this blog.  I’m coming back with regular posts starting the first of May.  The format will be changing somewhat as it will be less World of Warcraft centric, and more of my own general observations and musings.  See you guys then.

Affected by head cold

During the effects of head cold, energy regeneration is reduced by 50% and energy consumption is increased by 50%.

That’s what I feel like I’ve been hit with anyways.  Not really the main reason for the lack of updates, but just sort of something else that has piled on my end.  I hope to get back to work on my fan fiction soon before Raq has a fit waiting for the next part.  Speaking of the meatshield tank, he has been keeping his blog up to date with the latest in news from the Mythology raiding front.  The guild has actually completed some server first achievements in ToC25.  Big congrats to all that was there, and sorry I missed it.  It sounded like a blast.  Now, if you all will excuse me, I need to either find a real life paladin to cast cleanse on me, or just drag myself over to Wal-Mart for a bottle of cold medicine.

Guild Leading vs. Raid Leading

The current leadership situation in our raiding guild has had me thinking on the roles everyone plays to make our guild work.  We recently decided on assignments that officers in the guild would be responsible for doing.  These duties were separate from the actual officer rankings.  For example, we chose one officer to be in charge of the guild bank, one recruiting officer, someone to manage the website and forums, raid leaders, and other duties that the guild might require.  I chose to be the guild’s Morale Officer.  The duties of the Morale Officer is to be available to any member of the guild and help with any advice, issue, or game play problem the guild member might have.  In addition, the Morale Officer also plans guild events that are designed to boost morale.  When I first heard of the idea for this role, I immediately thought I would be perfect for it as it sounds right up my alley.

The event planning is going well.  Some of the ideas that have crossed my head seem like they would work while some others ended up being terrible.  I have tried a few of the ideas out myself just to see if it would be possible to do and hopefully fun.  Forgive me for not putting any details here though as I know guildies read my blog so the ones that do read this would have an advantage by being prepared for what I had in mind.  Once we have had the event, I will post what we did and how it went so if you want to try it out in your own guilds and see how it goes you can.

It is my belief that being a raid leader and a guild leader is really two separate jobs.   Raid leading requires knowledge every raid member’s role in the encounters, being able to give orders over Vent, and even possibly making tough decisions to determine the raid’s class make up, i.e. do we take an extra healer over one more DPS?  Guild leading requires a separate set of skills.  A guild master must resolve issues and disputes that might arise within the guild, enable the guild’s officers to effectively perform his or her duties, and along with the other guild officers determine the direction of the guild.  The difference between the two being that raid leading is focused on the task while guild management is more people oriented.  There are players out there who attempt to do both jobs incorporating raid leading with guild leading.  There are some who are more successful than others at doing both.

I am curious to hear about other guild leadership arrangements out there.  Please feel free to discuss in the comments section.  Is your raid leader also your guild leader?  Does it work well for your guild?  Are the jobs seperate and how does that work out overall for the guild?

What’s so funny?

Ok, I’m not in the greatest of moods today.  Things just didn’t go my way yesterday and although I realized we don’t get our way all the time, my luck has just been down right rotten as of late.  So here’s a video clip posted on Youtube I watch every now and then that always gives me chuckle if not down right want to join in on the manical laughter.  It is scenes from various animated Batman series of Mark Hamill (Yes, THE Mark Hamill of Star Wars fame) performing the Joker’s laugh.  I dare you to watch this and try not laughing yourself.  It’s contagious.

Missing In Action

npvyplql_bins_missing1Finally, I get a day off from everything yet I still have work to do.  Isn’t it funny how that works out.  My fellow guildies might have noticed I haven’t logged onto WoW all weekend.  A couple of reasons behind that being that work lately has been exhausting and other offline obligations that must be met.  This is also kept me from writing the articles I’ve been planning for this blog and keeping with the daily theme I’d set for myself.  I might just abandon the theme idea for the time being so I can allow myself to get set.  I did sort of jump into this blogging thing on a whim.

The good news is that I have set aside some time today for raiding later this evening with the guild.  I’m not sure about making it on time though, it just depends on what is in store for me around the time the raid is scheduled to start.  If I do make it to the raid, I’ll be sure to post the our results tomorrow before I head into work yet again.

Arkoro Hits Level 80!

Just a really quick note before I head off to work for the evening. I finally got my alt to level 80. Arkoro is a protection spec’d Paladin. Now to get him geared and set for running heroics and raids.

“It’s all part of the plan.”

I would like to start off by thanking everyone who has already visited my very young blog thus far.  I was extremely delighted by the comments left as it encourages me to keep on with my writing.  I hope to deliver articles that are both informative and entertaining.

One of the suggestions I received from my friend Kyrilean is to have a daily theme, or at the very least plan out how many posts a week I would like to accomplish.  Both ideas struck me as fantastic as it gives the blog some structure to work with.  So, starting next week expect the blog to follow this  format.

Monday:  Rogue related article
Tuesday: Poker related article
Wednesday:  Raiding Recap from Tuesday night
Friday: Random

This layout gives a good solid four posts each week with two being WoW related, one poker related, and one day for whatever I feel like raving writing about.  Friday could be another WoW article, about Poker, or anything from dog training to a movie review.  I like having a little bit of freedom to do whatever I feel like so I don’t get in stuck in a rut.

In the mean time, I keep looking for ways to make the blog look more professional or at least presentable.  Don’t be surprised if the appearance  changes from time to time while I try different things, add a bit of color here or there, nick of paint, nick of paint . . .
